In today’s day and age, it’s easy to sort new music into a single category and move on. By the end of a song, the audience is usually able to associate it with the work of another. This isn’t the case with RZMRY. She’s a breath of fresh air with a sound that just can’t be pinpointed. Her unique sound, a product of her alluring voice in carefully crafted tracks enchants listeners, keeping them wanting more.

RZMRY’s longtime love for music dates back to the days of her childhood when she was growing up in Connecticut. Even then, she would focus on her personal development as an artist and a performer. Her parents supported her, seeing that it was more than just a childhood dream. Her love for music never faltered, and she knew that this was the path she would follow. RZMRY’s talents aren’t limited to singing – over time, she taught herself how to play the guitar, the ukulele, and the piano. The guitar has a special place in her heart, as it was the first instrument she taught herself to play.

Earlier this year, RZMRY exposed the world to her music through the release of her EP, GLD. It consisted of four songs: “Gld”, “You & I”, “Baby Blue”, and “Limelight”. A constant upbeat tempo tied them all together, yet every song had a distinct feel to it that separated it from the rest. She’s been going above and beyond to both experiment with different sounds for her music and fine-tunes the skills she already possesses. When she runs into challenges in life, there’s a quote from Veronica Roth’s Divergent that keeps her motivated:  “Fear doesn’t shut you down; it wakes you up.”

Your art is a representation of yourself and similarly to wanting to present yourself perfectly, you want your art to be presented perfectly.

RZMRY embraces what makes her music unique, rather than altering it to fit a mold. Her songs are beyond tunes to dance to. Her music reflects who she is, and shares her feelings and experiences with the world. “The sound is pieces of myself. The pieces are electronic and they feel good, they sound catchy, but when you dig deeper it kind of hurts,” she explains, going further into the personal significance of her work. “It is pieces of myself in everything I used to love.”

Although the finished product and the response to GLD have been nothing short of spectacular, RZMRY mentions that there were some challenges she faced while putting the EP together. To RZMRY, the decision of knowing when the EP was finished was the most challenging part. “At some point, you decide you’ve done everything you can, that your part has been well executed, and that there’s nothing left for you to do but let it out into the world and see if it sinks or floats.”

In August, RZMRY covered DNCE’s song “Toothbrush” and put a slow, heartfelt spin on the summer party hit. This cover contrasted both the original and her original music on GLD. Surprisingly enough, she hadn’t originally planned for the cover to go down an acoustic route. “I got in the studio and the next thing I knew putting it to straight piano made my emotions soar on a new level and it worked,” she says, on the cover. By stripping down the song to just her voice and a piano, she created a new experience of the song for audiences.

RZMRY has one hope for her music’s impact: that it’ll touch at least one person’s heart. Her biggest priority as an artist is to have her music be there for people when times get tough. In her words, “Art is made by the alone for the alone. I want my music to make someone to feel like they’re not alone.”
