George Clooney: A Look at His Life

In Lexington, Kentucky, on May 6, 1961, Clooney was born. His mother, Nina Bruce was a city councilwoman and a former beauty queen. Nick Clooney, his father was a former television host and anchor who spent five years on the AMC network.

Clooney has English, German and Irish ancestry. Adelia Clooney is Clooney’s older sister. Rosemary Clooney, a cabaret performer and actress was related. He is related to actors Miguel Ferrer, Rafael Ferrer and Gabriel Ferrer, who is married to singer Debby Boone, through Rosemary.

Although Clooney was brought up as a devout Roman Catholic, he admitted in 1998 that he wasn’t sure whether he believed in Heaven or even God. At the Blessed Sacrament School in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky, he started his formal education.

He attended Western Row Elementary School (a public school) in Mason, Ohio, from 1968 to 1974, St. Susanna School in Mason, where he worked as an altar boy and St. Michael’s School in Worthington, Ohio. When George was halfway through the seventh grade, the Clooney family returned to Kentucky.

Clooney attended Augusta High School in Kentucky following the relocation of his parents there. He has claimed that he played baseball and basketball and received all As and a B in school. In 1977, he tried out for the Cincinnati Reds to play professional baseball, but he was not selected after the first round of player cuts and was not given a contract.

He majored in broadcast journalism at Northern Kentucky University from 1979 to 1981 and briefly attended the University of Cincinnati, although he did not complete either program. He made money through stacking stores, working in construction, cutting tobacco, selling women’s shoes and selling insurance door to door.
