The Black Panther actress revealed that when she went through some sort of a ‘funk’, there was something that helped her a lot to shake off that feeling! Apparently, Lupita Nyong’o turned to some good feel music, more precisely Taylor Swift’s, to help her feel better and it worked!
While in attendance at the screening of her brand new film Little Monsters, at the Sundance Film Festival, the star got candid about having a ‘hard time professionally’ and how she overcame that.
And since, in the movie, she performs Taylor Swift’s Shake it Off with a ukulele, Lupita revealed that the song actually means a lot to her personally and explained why that is.
‘I was going through a hard time professionally, and I was just in a funk. I was working abroad [at the time], and my best friend came to cheer me up. He just played ‘Shake It Off’ on his phone, and we had a dance party in my bedroom,’ the actress revealed.
Furthermore, she made it clear that the song being in the movie meant a lot to her.
Because of that, when the production struggled to get the rights to it, she decided to write Swift herself.
‘I wrote Taylor Swift myself and asked her, and told her that story. And she said yes!’ Lupita gushed.
The festival that took place in Utah happened only a few days after she and her Black Panther co-stars received the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture award at the SAG Awards!
And the success of the movie and as a result, of its stars, does not stop there!
Last week, Black Panther was also nominated in seven different categories at the Oscars.
