According to a new report from Variety, Will Smith recently backed out of the upcoming sequel to Suicide Squad, in which he portrayed the character, Deadshot. The outlet reported that Will backed off from the venture to pursue another acting gig, but it’s currently unclear which one he took.

Reportedly, his “busy schedule” is what persuaded him to drop out of the project. The outlet added that Will wanted to clarify there was no bad blood involved in his decision; it was just a choice he had to make out of necessity.

Will has been making waves in Hollywood lately, not only as a movie star but as a social media personality. Shortly after he started a YouTube and Instagram account, the actor amassed millions of followers and has continuously uploaded content of a varying format.

It was also announced recently that he would take on the role as the Genie in the upcoming Aladdin live-action reboot. The remake of the legendary cartoon feature was greenlighted a few years ago.

Either way, it appears that despite Suicide Squad’s massive success when it came out in 2016, Will isn’t interested in taking on the role again. While the film was a success at the box office, it wasn’t enjoyed by movie critics, who criticized the films pacing, marketing campaign, as well as the character development.

However, some pegged it as an immediate cult classic, for its dedicated following who love it no matter what the critics have said. It was the first time an actor portrayed the legendary character, the Joker, since Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight, for which he was awarded a posthumous Oscar.

Margot Robbie, however, who portrayed Harley Quinn, received critical acclaim for her role in the movie. Jared Leto as the Joker received mixed reviews, with many moviegoers and critics loving him and others hating him.
